Congratulations to Chris Nguyen (left) and Richard Sayre (right). The two received 10-week research internships at NASA Ames this summer. Both students started at Algebra in Fall 2016 and completed all math coursework through to Precalculus and Trigonometry. Through the STEM Core, Chris and Richie also gained technical skills in programming, computer graphics and design, and laser technology, which played a monumental role in their placement at NASA. They will be ready to take Calculus this Fall 2017. This summer, Richie will be working on the Sensitivity Analysis of Aircraft Project with the Diagnostics and Prognostics Group. He'll be running simulations to produce information regarding the impact of change in sensitivity in aircraft. The core program uses machine learning algorithms to teach the aircraft to eventually stabilize itself without the need of excess flight control, real-time prognosis! Chris will be working with the Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI). He'll be working on the design and fabrication of a robot, which will be deployed and have the ability to collect environmental data. It will be controlled through the internet using a web interface. The purpose of the project is to teach kids how to do data analysis with the designed robot. Stay tuned for updates! |
